Parent Workshops Program with Rabbi Sommer is Back - First Session is Nov. 4 at 10am - Please Join Us

CALLING ALL PARENTS!!!!!  CALLING ALL PARENTS!!!!!
FOUR-SESSION PARENTING PROGRAM WITH RABBI SOMMER IS BACK!!!!!!!!

FIRST SESSION IS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4th, 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Last year, Rabbi Sommer led a successful series of workshops that focused on issues of religious identity in our families.  The workshops, a partnership among Temple Beth Tikvah (TBT), Congregation Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek (CBSRZ), Jewish Family Service of New Haven (where Rabbi Sommer is Director of the Jewish Wellness and Healing Center and Coordinator of Pastoral Care, Pastoral Counseling and Community Outreach Services) and Greater New Haven Jewish Federation, provided a caring, safe and informative opportunity for parents to discuss issues they face in raising their children with a Jewish identity in a predominantly non-Jewish area.

Because of the success of that program and the strong interest expressed in building on the discussions and support started last year, four Sunday morning sessions have been scheduled for this fall and winter.  The dates for the sessions are: November  4th,  January 13th,  February  10th  and March 31st.  The sessions will meet from 10:00am – 11:30 am, which will allow participants to bring children to religious school, attend the sessions and return for school dismissal times.  The meeting place will once again be the the Guest House Retreat Center on Route 148 in Chester.  The cost for each participant is $6.00 for the sessions with each congregation helping to provide a light breakfast.  Please contact Sandy Walsh in the Office to register and pay for the program, although walk-ins are welcome!

The sessions provide a wonderful opportunity for parents to get together on a Sunday morning to explore religious perspectives of parenting, to reflect on issues related to the raising of a Jewish child, and to discuss and share how parents address their own religious identity as they raise a child/children who may have a different religious identity from them.  The goal of these sessions is to work together to create a positive, supportive and sharing environment in which individuals will feel comfortable in expressing their feelings and growing together as concerned parents on a journey to explore the issues of religious identity in their homes and synagogues.

Please join us for all or any of the four sessions.  We hope to see you on November 4th at 10:00 am.  If you have any questions regarding the program contact Rabbi Hesch Sommer (203-389-5599 ext.117) or Karen Redlich (Co-chair of the Education Committee) at 203-245-6018.
